Montgomery College’s Dental Assisting program offers a comprehensive one-year diploma designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel as integral members of a dental team. The curriculum integrates coursework in general studies, biomedical and dental sciences, and extensive clinical practice. Students gain practical experience through 384 hours of hands-on training, working alongside dentists and dental assistants in a virtual dental office setting complete with fully-equipped operatories and modern facilities. Upon graduation, students are classified as a Dental Assistant II, allowing them to perform expanded functions under the guidance of a licensed dentist in North Carolina. Graduates may also pursue certification as a Certified Dental Assistant by taking the Dental Assisting National Board Examination. The program prepares graduates for diverse employment opportunities in private practices, public health facilities, and dental specialty offices, addressing the growing demand for dental services.
